- Guest Room Wallpaper + Wallpaper Roundup!
Ahhhh I wallpapered the guest room yesterday and I could not love it more! The kind of paper I used is called “paste-the-wall” and it’s by far the easiest kind I have ever installed! (yes, better than peel and stick!) My number one question when I share wallpaper is… Can you apply it to textured walls? It’s your lucky day, because I have textured walls! Pictured below is what our texture looks like. I have installed all types of wallpaper on texture so I am your girl!! My favorite type by far is paste-the-wall! It is thick, so the texture doesn’t show through, and it is so simple to install! I have also used peel and stick, and while it will work on texture, yo u will be able to see the texture through it a little bit because it is a thinner paper, and sometimes the corners peel up on me so I would have to use a little bit of paste anyway. To install paste-the-wall, you apply your wallpaper paste directly to the wall using a brush or small roller, and then you just place the dry paper on top! Smooth it out, trim off the excess and you’re done!! No mess and it is quality paper! Below I will link some of my favorite wallpaper designs!!

- Create your own Gallery Wall
Gallery walls can be intimidating to a lot of people but honestly they are pretty hard to mess up. I am going to give you some simple tips to create a great gallery wall! As you all know, my walls in my living room are huge. Creating a gallery wall gave me a quick fix to cover the wall that is also very budget friendly. A good place for me to start was around my TV. I treated the tv like a piece of art…because it is! I love my frame tv for this reason. On such a large wall I knew I needed some large frames and also some smaller ones but not so small that they get lost on the wall. Create a balance. When creating your gallery wall, if you have a very large frame on one side maybe balance those on the other side with two smaller frames. When looking at your wall you want to make sure it is visually appealing. Its okay if it is not perfectly symmetrical. The spacing between each frame needs to be about an inch. Spreading your frames too far apart from each other on the wall will look messy. Get a variation of frames. When planning my gallery wall I visited several local antique stores and found a few unique frames I liked. The rest of them I already had. This is a great project to use some of those frames you aren’t using anymore. Check out my link here to see some of the frames you can use to get you started. Test out your design. There are several ways when making a gallery wall to test it out and see if it will look good. One way to do this is to lay it all out on the floor and play around with your frames and make sure it is the look you want. Another way to test out your design is to get some painters tape and measure the frames you will be using. Place your painters tape on the wall where you will be placing your frame and map it all out on the wall. This is the best method to me because it gives you a great visual of what your gallery wall will look like. Find great ART! What is in your frames is really what is going to make your gallery wall great. I have linked so many ETSY shops that have great pintables. When doing my gallery wall I simply downloaded them and sent them to Walgreens. It was very inexpensive and the prints were good quality. When choosing what prints you want, try and stick with similar colors. You may want a few neutral prints in there to break up some of the color. I wouldn’t use too many art prints or cut outs with a lot of words. One or two is okay but frames filled with tons of words will be hard to read. Look around your house for things you could frame. Old curtains you don’t use that you love the fabric, wallpaper remnants, printed paper, or even pieces of fabric. Don’t hang your pictures too high. One of the most common design mistakes many people make is hanging your pictures too high. People want to actually see your pictures and whats in them. Keep them close to eye level when creating your gallery wall and you should be good. Hope some of these tips will help you get started. Have fun! Shop some of my favorites here! Frames Art Prints
- Shelf Styling 101
Styling shelves is so fun! It is such an easy way to display things you love around your home. There are simple rules to follow when styling shelves that I want to share with you. Hopefully this will help you in your own home. When doing a grouping of items try and stick to the rule of 3! As you can see in the picture below I have grouped the plant, swan, and book. On the top shelf it was a clock, candle, and lamp. Groups of 3 will give a more put together look. Shop this photo here Balance out things on your shelves. You don’t want a lot of little things or what I like to call "knick knacks." Try and balance it out. A large tray mixed with a few little things. A large basket on one end and balanced by lighter things in the middle. Pay attention to the weight of an object. Not literally but visually. When styling your shelves spread around the weight of your objects. Notice how on the middle shelf below it is visually heavy on the right side with the brown tray. Adding a larger solid object like the basket on the opposite end made it visually balanced to the eye. Shop this photo here Don’t be afraid to use the back of your shelves. Propping things up or even hanging things on the back of your shelves adds a lot of visual interest. Shop this photo here Fill your shelves with things that are special to you. Make your shelves unique by adding family photos, something great you bought on a trip, or even a collection of things you love. You want your home to be your happy place. Decor is great but making personal touches on your shelves with things that are important to you give your home a story! Hope this helps you in your own home! Can't wait to see what you come up with!
- Neutral and Whimsical Kids Bathroom
I could not wait to makeover the kids bathroom after moving in! We replaced all flooring in our home before moving in. In the kids' bathroom we chose this beautiful and classic mosiac tile. We didn't have the budget to replace the tile in the shower yet but I knew just how I would fix it myself. Here are some before photos! We decided to replace the countertop because we had some leftover from the slab we purchased for our kitchen! I did a cute little cutout detail in the backsplash plate. I painted the vanity Contented by Sherwin Williams and added some cute scalloped trim that I found on Etsy around the top to cover up where the previous trim had been. I found the mirror on clearance at Anthro and knew it would be perfect! I will link all items seen below! For the biggest transformation of the space I used Rustoleum tile paint. 3 coats of white and one coat of sealer later and it looks like a completely different space! I love how it turned out. I have used this paint before and it holds up soooo well. Honestly when I was painting this I thought it would be like a Band-Aid to hold us over until we ripped the tile out and put in new, but it looks so good that it might stay painted forever! The paint is super easy to use! Just follow the directions on the 2 part kit I linked below from amazon! We decided to repeat the scallop trim in the shower room to tie into the vanity. I color blocked the bottom half of the walls and added the trim to the tops. One of my favorite parts of this bathroom makeover is the shower curtain!! I have a secret about it ;). It is actually a tablecloth! It is so hard to find shower curtains that are long enough to be hung high, so I usually prefer regular curtains but I couldn't find anything that I loved. I found this super cute gingham, textured tablecloth at Zara Home. I added curtain rings to it and hemmed it to length. If you follow me on Instagram you probably saw me sewing from the toilet ha! I also chose to hang the curtain rod from the ceiling because of the weird wall situation in there. Tap & Shop!
- DIY Fireplace with Real Flame! Part 3
It’s DONE!!!!!! I am so happy I could cry. I actually almost did when Brett lit the fireplace last night and we stepped back and looked at it. Is there anything better than creating something with your own hands that you and your family will get to enjoy for years to come? The insert is even more amazing in person than I imagined!!! It runs on alcohol gel cartridges so it is clean, unlike gas! You just put the cartridges in the insert and light them! When you are done you snuff them and seal them up! Each cartridge burns for a little over 2 hours and you can get replacements for $8 each! This is a great option for us since we live in Houston and don’t need the warmth that often! But it is a game changer from our previous electric fireplace (which we loved). You just can’t beat the ambiance of a real flame. Did I mention, it crackles!!!! We went with a beautiful satin gold finish. Would you expect anything less from me!? The inside has black matte herringbone tile and white birch logs! The beautiful art in this photo was inspired by The Blooming Nest and painted by Sarah Kaitlin! If you’re interested in more of the building process, read part 1 HERE, and part 2 HERE! Scroll & Shop!
